May 5th 2025
Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all in good health and the New Year has been good to you so far. Jon Hasz and I are back in the studio mixing for the new album. What is ironic, is that our first session together was back in 2010 on May 5th . Wow! We’ve done a lot of sessions since then, some special concerts, and a once in a lifetime show with James Burton! To make it even more special, Cinco De Mayo is my birthday! I’ve written quite a few new songs and revised some older ones. We were so fortunate to have Victoria Launderholm and Cassie B. join us on the album. Boy, can these ladies Sing! Rachel Bearer, a well- known studio singer from Los Angeles makes a guest appearance on I’ll Be There When You Need Me. Tripp Sprague has been handling the brass and string arrangements. This is going to be nice! I’m so grateful to be able to do the things that I love, and lift your spirits, and share some quality time with you. This is why I entertain. In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would get to meet and work with some of the special people that have inspired me throughout my career. Sadly, some of them are no longer with us. They live on in my heart and work’s.
I was torn between a career in baseball, pro rodeo, and the performing arts. It was not easy to pick one over the other. I’ve endured a lot of setbacks, heartache, and ridicule through- out my journey. Should have been a horse vet. Lol! It’s okay, it has made me a better person and brought me closer to God. He has blessed me, with my talents. It’s His show, baseball game, rodeo, you name it! We are planning the first shows in Lake Tahoe with James Burton as a special guest. This is where it all began for me when I was twenty years old.
Time sure flies! Bob McClure the entertainment manager at Harrah’s Tahoe gave me a job back stage. He went on to book me at Harrah’s Tahoe , and eventually became my personal manager. I might be older, but I refuse to grow up. In addition to some new songs, I finished a new novelette. The last few years I started throwing the baseball as part of my work out regime. A few recent trips to Dodger stadium, inspired me to write the baseball script, Full Count. (My homage to the Dodgers) I can still throw the baseball. The arm is live, the curve breaks, and the circle change- up can dance! (Yeah!) the return of Satchel Paige. We hope to see you down the road soon.
I know times are rough, please put your differences aside, be good to one another and stay happy.
I wish you all much love, happiness, and good health!
See you down the road!
God bless,
Rick

It’s been awhile in the making but we finally got the sound that we’ve been looking for! “I’ll Be There When You Need Me” is ready to be mastered so keep an eye out for the release and the video!
My late friend Hal Spencer, insisted that this song be the first single and that the message is very relevant to the world that we live in and that was pre-covid. Boy was he right on that one. Thanks Hal.
Summer 2022
Hello there!
I trust that everyone is recovering from the last two years. I know we have all been affected one way or another. I can only hope that we have learned to be a little kinder and more helpful to one an another. I personally took advantage of this down time, by writing a new script, a movie tie-in novel, rewrote another screenplay, some new songs, a TV special, and I’ve gotten back into the recording studio. I’m happy to say I’ve also been working on my tennis game, and have seen the Dodgers play live quite a few times!!! I’m learning to enjoy the simple pleasures of life we often take for granted!
My Christmas special “Merry Christmas From Tahoe” for television is in the works. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to film last year. We’ll also have a live album to accompany the show. Members of the Reno Symphony will back us up. A big thank here to Jeff Leep. My dear friend Parmer Fuller will be our conductor. This promises to be very special! At present moment I cannot tell you who all of my guests are. I know you will love them! I can say that James Burton, Irlene Mandrell and comedians Williams and Ree are among them. Speaking of James, we are planning to do some more concerts together. Lake Tahoe is looking like the first one on the list. We’ll announce the date and place when all is confirmed.
I’m elated to say that my screen play, Dreams of Gold, which had been on the back burner for some time, is in between development and pre-production. It will be filmed in the Tahoe basin and surrounding areas. We’ve got a great cast and crew lined up for this one. This has been a labor of love for me. Twenty- two years ago, the late Richard Farnsworth, Director Burt Kennedy, my pals Glen Campbell, Bobby Hoy, along with James Drury, Henry Darrow, Don Collier, Producer Jack Thompson and others were on board. They all had made their mark in the world of Western films, and television. We really thought we had a winner. Sadly, they are no longer with us, but they remain in spirit. A few of the original cast members are still involved. This has been one crazy journey trying to get this film made.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone that believed in me and encouraged me along the way. You know who you are, and so do I.
I’ll Be There When You Need Me is being remastered. My late friend and mentor Hal Spencer told me this should be the lead single. The message is very relevant for the world we are living in. Boy, was he right on that one! Hal, you are still guiding me from Heaven.
Last year, I did do a number of acoustic shows in a San Diego beach community. I won’t say where to protect the patrons and businesses. I guess it made them happy and I was able to try out some of the new material you’ll be hearing on the album. I don’t think I have ever been so creative in such a short amount of time, as I was last year. With God’s blessings, I can’t wait to get out there with James, Jon Hasz, the band, and some new friends. The Performing Arts are meant to not only entertain, but teach us about self-knowledge and expression. To have the opportunity to lift one’s spirits, is something I have never taken for granted. I consider this an honor and a special privilege.
This gives me the opportunity to thank those that have inspired me and touched my life along the way. I have never, never, done anything to be rich, or famous! If anything, pursuing my dreams has kept me in the poor house. Lol! I do things because it is my passion, a gift from God. It is my sincerest wish and prayer that we see you all very soon! Thank you for letting me share my story with all of you. I wish you much happiness, abundance, and renewed health.
Be good to one an another!
God bless you all!
Love, Rick

Rick Diaz and His Band of Thieves Christmas Medley:
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year! God bless each, and everyone, of you! Love, Rick December, 2017
My Memories of Christmas Wow! It’s still summer and I’m writing liner notes for a Christmas CD. Lol! Anyone, that knows me would tell you that this is my favorite time of the year! Coming from a multicultural background, Christmas would mean plenty of homemade tamales, lasagna, cherry cobbler, mountain berry pies, and of late the roasted pine nuts that was a staple of the Washoe tribe in Lake Tahoe. Either way you look it, it’s a time of celebration!
Christmas to me is so much more than receiving gifts. It’s more of putting a smile on a loved one’s face, let’s go beyond that a complete stranger! We are all related in the eyes of God our creator. I can remember going to midnight mass at St. Michaels Catholic church in Paradise Hills in San Diego. As the years would pass I have celebrated Christmas in California, Maryland, Tucson, Arizona, Julian, California, and finally my favorite place to be for Christmas beautiful Lake Tahoe. Once I got involved in music, I would sing in folk groups at various parishes. Advent was always a very special time for the music group. This would occasionally lead to Christmas caroling in the neighborhood. On one particular trip, I was coming back from Tahoe after a few concerts. I stopped by to visit my Aunt Millie and Uncle Sonny Chase, on their farm in Bakersfield, CA. Thanks to my Aunt Mille’s urging, I wrote my first Christmas song “I’m Gonna Shake the Decorations Right Off Your Christmas Tree”! “Lord have mercy! What was he thinking when he wrote that?” you must be saying to yourself. Actually, the inspiration came from the Country Bears Christmas show at Disneyland. It’s no longer there, but you can watch it on you tube. I was on my way or so I thought!
I wrote another holiday tune “My Christmas Wish For You”. It’s the first time I have ever heard one of my recordings being played on the radio,it was KRLT 93.9 FM. I was in the Safeway parking lot in Tahoe City. I thought I was going to dance in the snow I was so happy. I remember sharing this with Thurley Burnett who at the time was Glen Campbell’s personal secretary. She told me” This is why you record Rick, never forget this memory!” She was kind enough one Christmas to set it up for me to watch Glen’s Christmas show at Harrah’s Reno. Glen put on one beautiful show and we had the most wonderful visit afterwards. There are no words to describe the joy I felt after his words of encouragement he gave me” You go out there and make me proud son!” My version of Blue Christmas is my homage to Glen and Elvis. The string arrangements are right out of the Al De Lory/ Campbell classic Christmas recordings. The electric guitar solo, well that’s James Burton all the way. I would eventually write more Christmas songs and knew that my first ever Christmas album was inevitable. Having received favorable air play with the first songs, I felt that there was a chance something would click here. I had seven originals and narrowed it down to my five favorite standards to round out the CD. I have had the opportunity to perform a Christmas show here and there, and was encouraged by the response the group and I received. It has been a real labor of love, working on a limited budget. I knew I could not afford the type of arrangements, I was hearing in my head. Thanks to my dear friend, co- producer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and little brother Jon Hasz, we put our creative hats on and came up with a sound, that we felt did the songs justice. This has been done over the course of several years and remixes, etc. The cast is stellar what can I say. Tripp Sprague, Jon Hasz, Ethan Brown, Sharon Whyte, Ashley Foster, Danielle Tucker, Don Wiseman, Steve Baker, Rex Havoc, Jenny and Steven Flynn, Chris Vitas, JR Guernsey. This is some serious talent here! My Christmas experiences in Tahoe, have certainly influenced many of the songs on this recording. Someday soon I would love to do a Christmas special from Lake Tahoe. I fondly remember those John Denver specials in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
I could go on writing forever, but I think I will let you listen to the album and let it tell the story for you. Glen, Thurley, my Mom and Aunt Mille, Bob Matchinske, and others are no longer with us. I know that they are listening up in heaven. These are memories I will always treasure as I go on with my journey. Of all these memories the most important being, this is the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to wish you all good health, peace, happiness, and prosperity.
On behalf of the gang and myself we wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, a safe and a Happy New Year!
God bless you all!
Love, Rick December, 2017
